Nevsky holds the Cavalry slot, yet four formation skills and his ultimate all key off Footman squads. 🧊
His combat position reads Cavalry, but most of what makes Nevsky worth building only shows up when Footman squads are standing in the same legion.
Four Skills, One Type
Defensive Formation and Offensive Formation raise Footman Resistance and Might for troops in his squad. Awaken merges both boosts into one package, adds a Footman damage increase, and throws in a bonus to his own Dictator passive. Discipline - Footmen tacks on yet another Footman Might increase across his whole legion. Every one of those four names Footman squads directly, and the official English text for three of them doesn't even use the word "Footman" in the skill title itself, even though the effect text underneath spells it out plainly.
The Ultimate Needs Footmen
Battle Skill Echo, his signature slot-8 skill, only triggers each time a Footman squad in his legion casts a combat skill. No Footman squad casting skills means this one never fires at all, regardless of how strong Nevsky's own stats get. Tactical Strike and Legion Command don't share that dependency: the first fires off enemy squads on its own timer, and the second hands cooldown reduction and troop recovery to every friendly squad in the fight, not just Footmen.
Build Around The Slot 🧊
Slotting Nevsky into Cavalry and calling it done leaves four skills plus his best ultimate running on empty. He earns his keep as a legion centerpiece built around Footman troops, with Cavalry as the position he happens to stand in.
Is there a Footman squad in your Nevsky legion that's actually casting skills, or is he sitting there waiting on an effect that never triggers? 🛡️
