NBA Finals Game 2 Recap: The Last Time the Knicks Were This Close, It Was 1973. Two Wins Left.

ShireHub's read first: History, the Spurs, and Wembanyama were all pointing at a home win on Friday. Road teams that won Game 1 of the Finals were 2-16 in the following Game 2. The Spurs answered a first-round Game 1 loss this postseason with a 38-point blowout. And by every in-game measure, San Antonio had it won — a 14-point fourth-quarter lead, Wemby cooking.
Then a bounce off a guy's back changed everything.
Brunson 7-for-24. Wembanyama 29 points and four blocks. Spurs up 104-102 with less than a minute to go. And yet — Knicks 105, Spurs 104. Win streak: 13. Series lead: 2-0.
We said Spurs in 6 after Game 1. We're watching it back. They're going to need something we haven't seen yet.

What's happening off the court:
Game 3 moves to Madison Square Garden — Monday night, 8:30 PM ET on ABC. MSG hasn't hosted a Finals game since 1999. Worst-seat tickets are reportedly hitting $9,000 on the secondary market. Donald Trump has confirmed he'll be in attendance (he's from New York).
The Knicks are only the third team ever to win the first two Finals games on the road. The other two? The 1993 Bulls and the 1995 Rockets. Both won the title.
Last time the Knicks won a championship: 1973. Fifty-three years ago.
🗓️ Game 3 — Monday, June 9 · 8:30 PM ET · ABC · Madison Square Garden
The Spurs' survival equation: Wembanyama has to close out a game. The shot-making in the clutch has to improve, and Johnson has to find a way to take the ball out of Brunson's hands when the Knicks need one possession. They've had their chances in both games. Both slipped away.
Our updated series call: Knicks in 5. If MSG is what it looks like on paper Monday, the Spurs may not win another one.
📌 We're covering every game. G3 breakdown drops Tuesday. If the atmosphere at MSG is half of what the ticket prices suggest, it's going to be must-watch TV.
💬 Was Wembanyama's turnover the moment this series was decided — or can the Spurs still flip it at MSG? Let us know what you think in the comments.
