UFC Shanghai highlight video: Hector Santiago annihilates Lawrence Lui
I just came across that UFC Shanghai highlight of Hector Santiago knocking out Lawrence Lui. One specific part confuses me. After Lui crashed to the canvas from that straight right, Santiago kept throwing standing-to-ground punches until the referee intervened. As an ER physician, I’ve treated plenty of patients with severe facial trauma and concussions from fights. I understand it’s a competitive sport, but once an opponent is clearly down and unable to defend themselves, continuing to strike seems unnecessary and puts them at risk of life-altering injury. It’s hard to wrap my head around that line between competition and avoidable harm.
