Last month, a 16-year-old came into the ER with a sprained wrist from shadowboxing. She wouldn’t stop gushing about Amanda Serrano, saying she wanted to be just like her when she grew up. I just saw Serrano’s fighting this Friday. She’s one KO away from breaking Christy Martin’s all-time record for women’s boxing. The event’s streaming free on TikTok, which I’m definitely setting a reminder for. That kid would lose her mind if I told her I watched Serrano make history. I might even bake a batch of my dark chocolate cookies to share with the crew while we tune in between shifts.
