State police delay academy class in wake of Enrique Delgado-Garcia's death
Have you thought about hidden risks in first responders' training? In 2024, Massachusetts State Police trooper Enrique Delgado-Garcia died after concussion-like symptoms from academy boxing training. Post independent probe, the state police are delaying the 93rd academy class until over 30 priority recommendations (22 pre-start, 9 underway) are implemented. They’re permanently ending boxing training (previously paused). Delgado-Garcia’s family is relieved. Four troopers face criminal charges including involuntary manslaughter and perjury. Is cutting boxing the best move, or can it be made safe?
