A Child of My Own review – barely believable true crime tale of desperation and delusion
This new docudrama follows Ale’s jaw-dropping true story: after three miscarriages, overwhelmed by pressure to have a baby, she faked a nine-month pregnancy—even developing pseudo-pregnancy symptoms that fooled doctors. She struck a deal with Mayra, a single mom seeking an abortion, to take the baby, only to be arrested hours later hiding it in a gift bag. Now serving 13 years for kidnapping, Ale claims it was adoption; Mayra calls it a lie. It makes you wonder: can desperation blur into delusion, and where’s the line between despair and crime?
