EV test drives are supposed to boost adoption—but they can backfire
Ever hesitated to switch to an EV because of nagging range doubts—will it handle daily commutes, weekend trips, or rainy grocery runs? That’s why dealers offer extended test drives (BMW’s multi-day borrow, Volvo’s 4-day Test Drive+, even government-backed local programs) to let you experience real range, which depends on driving habits, weather and usage. But new research shows it’s not always effective: if the test drive falls short of expectations, some buyers might walk away instead of purchasing. Have you tried an extended EV test drive? Did it clear your worries or raise more questions?
